About Us: About the Practice

At New West Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Surgery we specialize in operative and non-operative treatments for all of your orthopedic and sports medicine needs. Unlike many specialty clinics, you do not need a referral to see one of our doctors. All it takes is a phone call from you to see one of our highly-trained orthopedic specialists.

In addition, all of our surgeons are board certified in orthopedic surgery. This ensures our physicians adhere to the highest academic and ethical standards.

Our health care team includes Physician Assistants (PA). PAs are trained to provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventative health care services under the supervision of a physician. These qualified practitioners enhance our team of physicians to provide you with the best personal care.

We are pleased to have you as a patient. If you have any questions, always feel free to contact our office and our trained staff will assist you in any way possible.

What's New

In an effort to always provide the highest level of care, the New West physicians are continuing to learn and utilize new techniques that they can bring to their patients.

Dr. Mahalek performs spinal fusions using state of the art computerized navigation systems. As the region’s leading expert in this technology, he is able to perform surgeries in less time with minimal blood loss, and with an unparalleled margin of safety for the patient.

Dr. Patrick Harrison is the newest member of the New West orthopedic team. He will be performing Patient Specific Instrumentation (PSI) for his total knee replacements. PSI ensures that patients are getting the right knee for them. Dr. Harrison will use an MRI to map out the entire leg to make sure the custom made knee implant not only fits with the rest of the knee, but also works cohesively with how the rest of your body moves. This makes for faster surgical times and an easier healing process. He is also bringing a new technique for hip replacement surgery to this area by utilizing an anterior-approach total hip replacement. The anterior-approach is a muscle sparing technique and benefits include accelerated recovery time, reduced pain, and more rapid stability of the hip due to the minimal trauma to muscles, tendons, and nerves.

Dr. Huebner has expanded his practice to cover foot and ankle. Through meetings and seminars hosted by the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society and surgical training sessions, he is prepared to see and treat ailments ranging from general to complex foot or ankle problems.

Drs. Heber Crockett, Nolan May, and Bernard Keown are trained ImPACT physicians. They participated in specialized training by the Nebraska Sports Concussion Network on the treatment and management of athletes with a concussion using the ImPACT Test application. ImPACT testing is used in the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, and numerous NCAA Division I Football Programs and is a great resource to bring to local athletes.

Dr. Mansuetta’s wrist joint replacements are a way for his patients to get pain relief while maintaining their wrist motion. Prior to wrist replacements, wrist fusions would help with pain relief, but would reduce motion. He also performs artificial thumb joint replacements, which are stronger and more durable than the ligament reconstruction techniques.
